Key differences
Brisbane Open is not a free weekend experience. Rather, Brisbane Open is a program of tours and interactive experiences to support the viability of the free Brisbane Open House weekend... which will be in 2022.
Brisbane Open is different from other tour group offerings in Brisbane. We grant you access to special buildings - the ones you have loved to visit during our Open House events.
Our guides are passionate experts in their fields and we pay them for their time.
Brisbane Open cultural tours are not for profit, and provided to the public for a fee. We charge for these tours. All funds raised contribute to paying the guides, managing the tours, and any profits go towards making the Brisbane Open House weekend in July free of charge.
Brisbane Open is and initiative of Brisbane Open House.
Safety first. As part of our COVID Safety Plan, we are interested in social distancing, monitoring staff and guests’ general health, gathering and confidentially storing contact details for tracing and practicing good hygiene.
Brisbane Open complies to state laws requiring us to facilitate social distancing, so we will be asking you, if you are entering or leaving a building or room, to keep 1.5m from other member of the group as much as practically possible. We also limit tour group sizes to reduce these risks.
We are also required to monitor whether any of our guests is unwell. If you are unwell, we will advise you to leave the group. We only offer cancellation refunds prior to the day of the tour. You will need to give us 72 hours’ notice of your cancellation prior to the tour to receive a refund.
We are also required to record the details of our guests for contact tracing. This is done through the booking system. We guarantee to keep your details confidential, kept between us and the venue managers of our destination partners.
We ensure as best we can, that the general surfaces that you are likely to touch, are cleaned regularly. Between tours, surfaces are wiped clean. We ask you to avoid unnecessarily touching surfaces, and to practice good hygiene for the safety of the group and crew.
You need to book ahead. Bookings close three hours before the tour starts and have limited capacity. Without a booking, unfortunately you cannot join the group. We need to have your details registered and payment confirmed, to bring you with us.
Being prepared to be part of the group (socially distanced) for 1.5 to 4 hours depending on the tour. Enjoy occasional stops to take in the sights and hear about the history, architecture or cultural, social geography. We will organise for you to enter specific buildings as prearranged for your tour. Expect to hear a few good stories when you regroup. You are welcome to ask questions. It is all part of the tour.
We suggest that you come equipped for the walk, and for the weather on the day. Please bring your own water bottle.
For self-drive tours, we will provide you with the addresses on the route as we go, so bring your navigation tools – google maps or a street index.
Disability access is sometimes (rarely) limited in historical buildings, and this information is clearly stated in the tour information. We can cater for particular requests for special access, hearing impaired Auslan translation (pre booked, added cost), quiet times for dedicated groups, and requests for carers to attend free of charge.
We welcome your group however small. If you are with a conference, high school, or university, or have a few friends or colleagues that you want a special tour for, we can negotiate a price and book a guide for you.
Please get in touch. give us a couple of weeks to arrange the optimal tour experience for you.
If you are unwell or cannot join the group, and you tell us 72 hours or more before the time of the tour, we will refund your ticket. No other refunds are offered.
If you bring children, please ensure that they are always supervised. Be conscious of the other guests’ comfort. We charge for children of age 2 and over. We encourage young people 14 and over to participate as the tours are generally designed for interested teens and adults. Please also consider a parents’ group, or special family outing as a special booking. Contact us to discuss the possibilities.
